Building a Successful & Practical Procurement Organization

Looking out for this Procurement Manager promotion in 2025? Or reorganizing?

I’ve had the chance to set up different procurement organization from scartch or reorganization and while it might sound complex, it is actually not the hardest part of the function. If we get some few guidance, a good support, some self-development and training…this can be achieved smoothly.

Before diving into implementing new strategies, dedicate time to observe and assess the current state of the procurement function.

  • Don’t rush in building anything new as you take on the role.
  • Assess carefully everything in you hands (people, processes, tools, data, documentation…)
  • Take time to meet, listen and understand the team: Assess the skills and experience of the procurement team members, evaluate the current workload
  • understand the business needs and expectation and align your new role to that
  • Seek support and guidance within your organization and externally (procurement network, leaders on Linkedin, mentor etc.)
  • Enjoy the ride.

Once you’re familiar with your new role, start digging deeper, be strategic on your approach focus on quick wins to build connections with stakeholders and set the tone:
