Procurement scope of work? 💫

Procurement scope of work? 💫

Why is it so important to have a clear & detailed scope of work for us?

How much time do we waste going back & forth on clarifications, emails, & calls, just to fix misunderstandings that could have been avoided?

One of the best managers I’ve had taught me that good preparation is key: it saves time, gets the right deal, & sets the project for success… & it is true!

Why it matters to us ?
✅ avoids miscommunication
✅ aligns expectations
✅ reduces surprises (the bad kind!)
✅ speeds up execution

How can we avoid mistakes ?
1. Being specific! no room for vague terms
2. Covering deliverables, timelines, & responsibilities
3. Confirming mutual understanding before we sign for anything

Simple? Yes. Always done? Not really -> emergencies, lack of time, resources…
Yet, getting it right upfront makes all the difference.

So, maybe these steps can help us build a solid SOW?

1. Define project objectives & scope
2. Gather requirements
3. Develop deliverables
4. Define technical requirements
5. Outline quality standards
6. Address HSE concerns
7. Define intellectual property (IP) rights
8. Specify insurance & liability
9. Determine payment terms
10. Establish communication & reporting
11. Include contract management provisions

check below an example & let me know what we missed & could improve. DM if needed the original format!

What’s your experience with scope of work? Any lessons learned? How do you define a clear SOW with your stakeholder? I’m keen to hear from you. Thank you 🙏
