Let’s welcome Gen Zs to procurement !
I’m intrigued by the fresh perspectives and energy that Gen Z is bringing to the procurement field.
I have teenage daughters, a couple of years left for my elder one to enter college 😅 and I’m fascinated by how our generations, despite our differences, share fundamental human values like family, curiosity about the future, & the desire to make a positive impact.
I’m both curious and excited to see how we, as seasoned professionals can best welcome them & support their success.
Gen Z is a significant & growing portion of the workforce & estimated to make up approximately 30% of the global workforce by 2030! Which is tomorrow!
Preparing allows us to proactively adapt our strategies, attract top talent, & ensure a smooth transition as Gen Z increasingly enters the workforce.
So, let’s appreciate their unique viewpoints & work together, to find common ground!
GenZ has navigated the digital revolution, these experiences shape their perspectives & bring unique strengths to the table.
I often hear concerns about attracting & retaining Gen Z talents, with some characterizing this generation as impatient & demanding… I believe these perceptions are based on stereotypes. It is a different generation. Let’s accept it as is?
Our history has shown us that each generation challenges the status quo & brings a positive change.
Each generation has also faced its own challenges & opportunities. Just as the generations of:
1. Baby boomers, they challenged traditional social norms & values (civil rights, women’s liberation movements…). They were often seen as rebellious & impatient for change? but their efforts led to significant social progress.
2. Gen X, they embraced globalization & technology (internet & e-commerce). They were perceived as cynical or disengaged due to their independent nature? but they ultimately drove innovation & technological advancement.
3. Millennials, they prioritized work-life balance & challenged traditional career paths. They were perceived as entitled or lacking commitment?…but they have redefined the workplace & brought a greater focus on employee well-being & a more human-centered approach to work.
4. Gen Z, are also bringing their added value. They are prioritizing sustainability, ethical practices, and social responsibility, driving a shift towards a more purpose-driven and values-based approach to work.
I believe that Gen Z has the potential to be a powerful force for good, driving sustainability, ethical practices, & positive change in the procurement field & beyond.
I’m eager to learn from Gen Z insights & work together to build a more inclusive & innovative future for procurement.
Let’s learn a bit more and check some strategies in the below doc, Help me improve it ! I apologize if it’s a bit long. I’m also eager to get your feedback, keeping in mind that there’s limited data and mostly estimates and not 100% accuracy. Thank you!
